Nuestra Señora de las Mercedarias Leioa School, located in Bizkaia, faced a major assessment challenge. In 2021, the LOMLOE law came into effect, requiring all schools in Spain to evaluate students based on a set of key competencies. EutopiaHere’s how, after implementing Eutopía, the school achieved incredible results.
We are used to following a traditional assessment system—exams, assignments, and so on—and stepping out of that comfort zone when it comes to evaluation is challenging for us,” said Yolanda Jodra, Secondary Coordinator at the school.
The use of assessment rubrics, checklists, and other tools wasn’t enough to meet the ambitious goals set by the LOMLOE. That’s why the school needed to takea bold step forward and completely rethink the way they assessed their students.
Mercedarias School in Leioa began using Eutopía at the start of the 2023-24 school year, in 6th grade of Primary and 1st and 2nd year of ESO. Around 160 students entered an archipelago full of learning scenarios..
Since then, they have been using Eutopía both in class and for homework, about one hour per week per subject.
But no one can explain it better than the teachers themselves, so here’s a video covering the following topics:

“The teachersvalue most about Eutopía is the assessment system, as it gives them insights they wouldn’t be able to get otherwise. Now, they can evaluate all their students—those who stand out, whether for their strengths or areas of improvement, as well as those who typically go unnoticed—with real, objective data.
The teaching staff liked Eutopía so much that halfway through the school year, they decided to expand its use to 5th grade, reaching a total of 240 students. At the beginning of the 2024–25 school year, they chose to renew and expand their use of Eutopía even further, adapting it to the specific needs of their school.
“The students loved it, in fact, they keep asking me for more activities,” one teacher shared. This level of excitement isn’t surprising when it comes to video games and young people—but with Eutopía, that energy is channeled into meaningful learning.
The story between Mercedarias School in Leioa and Eutopía is just getting started—but the results so far couldn’t be more promising. With engaged students, empowered teachers, and a system that truly supports meaningful learning, the future looks bright. What’s next?
